What About After Surgery?
Printer-friendly version
Follow the recommendations of your health care team. Your doctor or dietitian probably will give you specific instructions on what and how to eat after your surgery. The diet your health care team prescribes for you will depend, in part, on your condition and the nature of the surgery. Some patients have no dietary restrictions, but many do. Some patients can take only clear liquids for a while.
Eat a healthful diet. When your dietary restrictions are lifted, you should go back to the good, well-balanced diet you were using before surgery. The combination of your illness or injury, the surgery, and any post-surgery diet restrictions makes it very important for you to get good nutrition now. Your body needs those nutrients for healing and recovery.
If you or your doctor are concerned that you can't get adequate nutrition from regular foods, consider medical nutritional products. Ensure® products are convenient and easy to use while you're recovering. And they will give your body the nutritional help it needs on your road to recovery. There are several forms of Ensure. Your doctor can help you select which is best for you. Click below for more information about the various products.
