Tips for Tough Times: Eating well when you’re not feeling well.
Getting the nourishment you need after an illness, while recovering from surgery, or during treatment can be tough, especially when you don’t feel like eating. The good news is, even if you’re not up for full meals, you can still get plenty of protein, vitamins, and minerals.
- Eating right doesn’t necessarily mean sitting down to a full, multi-course meal. When you’re not feeling your best, try eating smaller complete meals.
- When you don’t feel like a meal, whip up a smoothie. Combine fruit and/or leafy greens with your favorite protein (such as yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, or Ensure) for an easy-to-drink, nutrient-rich choice.
- Try an oral nutritional supplement, such as Ensure, as a small meal or snack. It’s a valuable source of nutrients and protein if you’re not able to eat.
